Leaded panelsPanels are created using traditional methods of manufacture, and can be made to any size, however large panels will require reinforcement internally or with steel rods for additional strength.
Lead came in a H shaped profile is stretched by hand before it is shaped around the glass edges, cut to size and then soldered together at each lead joint. The panel is framed in either lead or zinc depending on the end use, and sealed using putty or cement. This process makes it suitable for internal or external windows or doors as they are made waterproof by the cementing process. |

copper-foiled panelsFirst created by Louis Comfort Tiffany in the 1890s, Tiffany style copper foiled panels allow for extremely fine and detailed work, making it perfect for decorative panels, suncatchers and mirrors.
It allows for intricate designs, however it is not waterproof so unsuitable for outdoor use or for external windows. Panels can be made to any size, and in a variety of shapes, however large panels will require reinforcement and it may be necessary for a combination of both lead and tiffany work for large scale panels to provide additional strength. |

ordering a custom panel
If you live locally, I can visit you to get measurements for the panel and discuss your thoughts and ideas, or you are welcome to make an appointment to visit our studio to view reference books and our glass selection. Or we can discuss ideas via email or over the phone.
Once we have discussed your ideas and requirements for a panel, I will then work out an estimated ballpark quote (as cost is dependent on many factors such as the intricacy of the design, techniques required, glass choice).
From there, if you are happy to proceed with the process, design ideas would be created with a quote sent to you as well as a deposit request to secure the booking and confirm the order. The design will be developed with your input and thoughts, as well as colours and glass choices selected. At this point the panels measurements will be confirmed as it will be made to this specification.
The lead time for making the panel can be from 6 to 8 weeks or longer depending on our current workload as well as the complexity and scale of the project. I'll keep you up to date with the progress, and once the panel is complete we can either arrange for delivery (cost to be confirmed) or you are welcome to collect it.
The cost for a custom stained glass panel varies dependent on the the design complexity, the colour and type of glass selected, the size of the panel and the techniques used (such as traditional lead, copper-foiling, fired inclusions such as photographs or decals, fused glass elements, screen printing, glass painting etc.) as this can all impact the price.
Costs can range FROM £200 per square foot
Depending on design complexity, colours, inclusions etc.
Panels involving traditional stained glass painting or enamel techniques are price on application.
*Please note I only create the glass panel, I often work with a local joiner as well as a talented woodworker to fit or frame panels especially for more complicated installations, or if you would like your panel to be framed in wood or for a decorative plinth/base to be made to hold and display the panel. Or you may wish to undertake the fitting yourself.
