Independent family-run studio and gallery
|
A small but well-equipped production studio and gallery based in The Craft Courtyard at Harestanes.
Established 2 April 2016, by owner Rachel Collins. With Rachel's daughter, Georgia, joining the studio in March 2020 as a full partner. We produce a range of unique and individually handcrafted dichroic glass and sterling silver jewellery, kiln-formed fused and stained glass for the home and garden. |
Rachel's HistoryAfter almost 30 years in the Civil Service, I attended a night class in Stained Glass at a local college, in Stirling in 2005. Within weeks I was addicted and ordered all the glass, tools and equipment.
I went on various training courses in glass fusing and trained with Zurich based Erna Piechna, a well renowned and respected glass artist with expertise in kiln formed work. I then successfully started and ran my own glass supply business and training studio for almost 10 years with my Husband, before moving down to the Scottish Borders for a lifestyle change, where I re-discovered my passion for art glass. |
Georgia's History
As my parents ran their own glass supply business, I grew-up surrounded by glass, artists and training workshops. From a young age I learned the art of stained glass and was introduced to glass fusing. This allowed me to create unique glass designs for my Art submissions in High school.
Instead of glass I ended up choosing to study Fashion Technology, and graduated from Heriot-Watt University with a Masters degree in business and design. After working in the Fashion industry down South, I've returned home to the Borders and rekindled my love of glass. I then added to my skillset by learning silversmithing techniques to incorporate my Mum’s beautiful fused glass jewellery with handcrafted sterling silver findings and settings. |
