A fusing adventure

The fusing adventure workshop allows you to unleash your creativity and imagination to create a fused glass work of art.

With a range of projects available from £75* such as dishes, set of coasters, glass art in frame or wood base.

*Larger projects are available on the day at an additional cost, with price on application depending on size of project. 
Choice between:
• Square dish
• 2 small dishes
• Set of 4 coasters
• 1 small dish and set of 2 coasters
• 1 small dish and slim glass art in wood base

• Landscape or glass art set in wood base
• Glass art panel in picture frame

Larger projects are available on the day at an additional cost, with price on application depending on size of project.

​Maximum group size is 6 people.
​No previous glass experience is necessary.
Please note glass cannot be taken away on the day, it will require firing in the kiln (sometimes multiple firings) until complete and ready to collect. Postage can be arranged if necessary.

Workshop details
WORKSHOP LENGTH
Half day workshop is approximately 4 hours.
Please note workshop times are approximate and class may run longer or shorter.

It includes an optional lunch or afternoon break - please bring a packed lunch or visit one of the local cafes based at Harestanes, there is also the Woodside Garden Centre café near us, as well as the fabulous Ancrum Pantry across the A68 main road in the village of Ancrum that does lovely filled rolls, pastries etc.

WHAT'S INVOLVED

​Learn the basics of glass cutting, how to achieve different effects by altering the temperature of the kiln and work with fusible glass in a wide variety of colours and effects.

Design and make your own fused glass art, with a range of projects to choose.
Please note: Larger projects such as mirrors, lanterns, freestanding wave/curve and larger glass art in frames/wood bases are also available and can be added as a supplement cost on the day of the workshop if required.

Please note: glass cannot be taken away on the day, it will require firing in the kiln (sometimes multiple firings) until complete and ready to collect. Postage can be arranged if necessary.
What's included
Light refreshments provided such as tea/coffee/water and biscuits are available throughout the workshop. Please advise of any dietary requirements at the time of booking and we will try to accommodate.

We cannot allow open cups on the bench during glass cutting. Please ensure to bring a bottle if you would like to leave water on the bench during class.

All glass, tools, equipment and protective gear are provided to allow you to create your fused glass art work.

Selection of transparent glass and opaque glass in various colours and effects, and clear glass. Selection of compatible glass products such as stringers (thin pulled lines of glass), frit (crushed glass), and confetti (wafer thin pieces of glass).

​WORKSHOP SAFETY EQUIPMENT
We provide all protective clothing for our workshops. Every effort is made to ensure your safety and comfort during our workshops.
• Safety glasses are provided and must be worn when cutting glass. The safety glasses are oversized so as to fit over the top of regular eye glasses, and have side protection to protect the wearer further in a class situation.
• Aprons are provided to protect clothing on all of our workshops.
• Anti-fatigue mats are provided on the floor around the work benches to make standing more comfortable.
• 
Heavy gloves can be provided to protect your hands when removing and handling glass from the scrap boxes.
Rules & Safety
Please wear close-toed shoes, sensible clothing (long sleeves preferred), tie up long hair, bring reading glasses if worn.

GENERAL HEALTH & SAFETY
• Harestanes Glass Studio accepts no liability for physical injury of any kind, upon booking onto a workshop you accept the potential risks and dangers involved with glass cutting and soldering (stained glass) and that you are choosing to participate at your own risk.
• Protective safety equipment and clothing as well as safe workshop practice should be followed to prevent and mitigate any potential dangers.
• You may be in a class situation with other individuals depending on class booking numbers, please be considerate to other class participants. You are expected to be sensible and courteous. Any person deemed to be behaving inappropriately or irresponsibly will be asked to leave immediately. No refund will be given in this instance.
• A coat rack has been provided for you to safely store any coats or bags to prevent tripping hazards. Harestanes Glass Studio accepts no liability for loss or damage to personal belongings. They are stored at your own risk.
• Suitable clothing must be worn, preferably long sleeves and no cropped tops.
• Sensible footwear must be worn, no open-toed shoes, sandals or flip-flops will be allowed in the workshop.
We reserve the right to ask the student to leave the workshop if unsuitable clothing or footwear is worn. No refund will be given in this instance.
• Unfortunately we cannot allow any dogs to accompany you on workshop, cutting glass can create sharp splinters that often fall to the floor making it dangerous.
• Please note we have a log burning stove. We have a fire guard and signage, and we ask students to please keep a safe distance and to remember that the stove is hot to the touch.
• Only sealable bottles of water or juice can be kept on table. Open glasses or cups are too dangerous due to chemicals or shards of glass. Breaks can be taken at any time during workshop to eat or drink, and light refreshments such as tea/coffee/water are provided during breaks.
